Over the weekend, Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik did their first hand-holding pap stroll. This came just one week after Gigi and Zayn seemed to leave the AMA after-parties together, which got the ball rolling on the speculation that Zayn and Gigi are your 12-year-old niece’s favorite new It Couple. And because this whole thing feels very middle school, of course there was some juvenile DRAMA to go along with the new couple. If you remember, Gigi was dating Joe Jonas just a few weeks ago. After Gigi and Zayn stepped out for their hand-holding pap stroll, Joe Jonas turned into a mega-bitch and unfollowed Gigi on social media, plus he deleted a photo of himself and Zayn.

How did Gigi respond? She Instagrammed-then-deleted a photo of the word “CHILL” with this message: “Sometimes life just happens.. For whatever reason in whatever timing. And sometimes it doesn’t make sense til it does. That’s it.” Yes, life just happens when you’re Gigi and Zayn. Personally, I think Zayn seems like a douchey punk, and as it turns out, Gigi’s friends may agree with me!

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik look good together, but are they really all that compatible? Let’s not get too carried away just yet—the 20-year-old supermodel and 22-year-old ex-member of One Direction have only been dating a few weeks. Still, though, even though this budding romance hasn’t had time to develop into anything serious, a source tells E! News that some of Gigi’s pals don’t like her coupled up with the former boy-bander.

“Her friends do not quite understand what the attraction is,” says an insider. “He is not her usual type, he doesn’t share her sense of humor or ease with people [and] he’s a little more self-aware and awkward.”

Hey now, the 1D fellas’ awkwardness is kind of part of their charm—isn’t it? In any case, it seems that Gigi’s friends just don’t want her falling too hard, too fast for the British charmer. One insider notes that the model, whose exes include Cody Simpson and Joe Jonas, “could date anyone she wants.” It’s because of this, perhaps, that Gigi’s friends are confused as to why she’d go for someone who doesn’t necessarily roll with her same Hollywood clique.

Gigi seems to be just fine with Zayn as is! Plus, if we’ve learned anything from her dating life lately, it’s that Gigi isn’t a fan of people sticking their noses where they don’t belong. As she tweeted to her 958,000+ followers just last week, “There’s just no need to be judgmental about situations that are not your own. Let live.”

I think it’s cute that Gigi Hadid is still so new to the game that she still has friends who sell her out to E! News. I’m assuming this piece doesn’t come from her publicist, just because I can’t imagine a professional publicist wanting this story out there. No, take it at face value: Gigi has friends who run to E! News to say that no one in their clique really “gets” why she’s all about a little punk with great cheekbones. I do think it’s weird that Gigi has such a thing for former or current boy-banders, although I’ll admit it – I find her romance with Zayn much more intriguing than her romance with Joe Jonas. We’ll see how it plays out. I’m sure there will be so much more middle school drama before this is over.
